There is a lot that goes into making good, effective signage. Here at M & M Signs and Awnings, Inc. we've been making signs since 1972. So we know exactly what it takes to make high-quality efficient signage. Here you will learn just how we go about making our signs and what it takes to do so.
Graphics:
Once a job is processed by our owners, Stephanie Creed in our graphics department talks to the customer to find out exactly what they are wanting. Then she uses various graphics programs (such as Adobe Illustrator, Corel Draw, and sometimes Signlab) to create the drawings that are needed and then sends proofs to the customer for approval (usually via email). After the customer approval, a sign could go in either one of two directions: 1. If it is a small sign such as a aluminum sign with vinyl applied or a banner, Stephanie completes the sign from there. We use a Roland® VersaCamm® 540i Printer & Cutter to do the job of cutting and/or printing any vinyl or banners that need printing/cutting, or 2. The customer approved drawings for the larger jobs then go to our permitting department.
Permitting:
Each large sign that is going on a building or near a street has to have permits from the city, town, or county it resides in. Jean Mathis runs our permitting department. The permitting process often is a difficult one. Each city, town, and county has different sign rules and regulations that must be met before we can acquire a permit. Jean searches for the correct forms to fill out to obtain such a permit. Stephanie and Jean sometimes have to work together to change the design of the sign to meet certain specifications made by the city, town, or county in question. Hopefully after compromising with officials, we receive approval for a permit.
Production:
Once the permit is in the mail, the sign making process can begin. We manufacture all different kinds of signs. Some of them include: Electronic Signs, Channel Letters, Illuminated Awnings, Neon Signs, Redwood Signs, LED Reader Boards, Pylon/ID Signs, Monument Signs, etc. If you can think of it, we can probably make it.
Installation:
After the sign and all it's parts are made, it is time for installation. We have to give a lot of credit to the guys that are in charge of installing all of our signs and awnings: William Edwards, Beau Hiatt, and Lee King. They work hard in all types of weather to make sure that deadlines are met and signs are installed effectively. This often means not being afraid of heights, enduring any kind of weather regardless of whether it's extreme heat, cold, or rain, and working long hours on weekends. That is just some of the challenges they face each day.
